Farmers Help Answer Consumers’ Food Questions in New York
As part of its commitment to lead the dialogue and answer questions about how farmers raise our food, the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) recently hosted a series of panel discussions featuring farmers, ranchers, food industry experts and members of the media. The Food Dialogues event, titled “Straight Talk, Straight Answers,” featured three panel discussions focused on some of today’s most provocative topics related to food.
- “Media, Marketing and Healthy Choices” examined how the media’s coverage of food and its health benefits have impacted consumer choice.
- “Antibiotics and Your Food” featured experts ranging from veterinarians to consumer advocates discussing the use of antibiotics in food production.
- “Biotechnology (GMOs) and Your Food” focused on the role that biotech crops have in society, including benefits and concerns related to long-term health and the pros and cons of labeling.
Ali Velshi, CNN chief business correspondent and anchor of “Your Money” and “World Business Today” on CNN International, moderated the three sessions, which included more than 15 experts in nutrition, food policy, biotechnology, veterinary science, farming and ranching. Former United Soybean Board Chair, Jerry Slocum, participated in the panel discussion focused on biotechnology.
