Economic Impact of Biotech Economic Impact of Biotech

Biotechnology has improved crop yields and productivity in the United States. In 2007, farm income benefit from biotech crops was $10.1 billion. The largest farm income gains have been in soybeans largely due to cost savings.

The European Union has not adopted biotechnology, and there are increasing restrictions on imports of GM food and feed from major exporting countries, including the United States. The EU zero tolerance thresholds may in the near future have a negative impact on its supply of raw materials and economic ramifications.

Articles below include background on the economic issues of biotechnology in agriculture, benefits of biotech crops, economic studies within various countries, and more.
